How to use eye drops properly

  • Wash your hands
  • Open the bottle of drops and stand in front of a mirror
  • Put your head back and open your eyes
  • Shelf life : Make a note of how long you can use the eye drops after first opening the bottle (check the package for this information).

Giving eye drops to someone else

  1. The person lies down on their back without using a pillow and closes their eyes.
  2. Put your hand on the persons’ forehead or cheek. This will prevent the eye from being hurt by sudden movements of the head.
  3. Then, pull the lower eyelid down and put a drop of the eye drops in the inner corner of the open eye.
  4. Wait two seconds before releasing the lower eyelid, and then ask the person to close their eyes for about one minute.
